Hearing the History

This piece was painted during the Oil Painters of American (OPA) paintout in Charleston, SC.  In the quiet early morning, I selected a spot on Church Street where I was attracted to the light on the yellow and pink buildings.  The traffic increased as I worked.  As the walking tours, horse-drawn carriages, and tour buses took took possession of the street, I realized that I was across the street from Dock Street Theater and next to the French Protestant (Huguenot) Church, both popular tourist attractions.  As I painted, I enjoyed hearing several versions of the history of the buildings and had opportunity to invite people to the reception.

There were 45 artists who participated in the event and we had a good turnout for the wet paint reception that evening at the Lambert Gray Gallery.   Many thanks to Hilarie Lambert for organizing the event.
