(This is a repost of last week’s post which had a problem with the link. If you’ve already seen this one, come back tomorrow for something new.)
One of the highlights of my recent trip to France was seeing Monet’s Nymphéas at the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris. Monet painted these huge paintings of his beloved waterlilies late in his life and donated them to the people of Paris. The first room is a round white vestibule that allows the viewer to pause and clear his/her vision before encountering the brilliant colors of nature in the paintings. The next two rooms are ovals, each containing four paintings lit by skylights. The effect is being surrounded by water and sky, and the paintings are amazing combinations of abstraction and nature.
