Continuing my experimentation with oil paints, I signed up for Mary Gilkerson’s Stucture and Surface workshop to learn more about solvent-free oil painting and techniques using painting knives. Since the weather has been so warm here, I was drawn to a photo of Hunting Island beach from a trip in February for a cool foggy atmosphere. The color scheme is neutral to emphasize the value structure. This piece was created using an warm yellow ochre acrylic underpainting. The oil paints were applied with painting knives in thin layers without any solvents or mediums.
