At the Adirondack paintout in June, I had the opportunity to take a boat tour of the lakes around Paul Smith’s College. Lower St. Regis, Spitfire, and Upper St. Regis Lakes are the location of many of the famous great camps of the Adirondacks owned by wealthy people who use them only during July and August. We couldn’t see much of the main lodges from the water, but the boat houses were amazing, often having 3-5 bay doors for boats and living quarters on the upper level.
In this painting, I wanted to capture the peaceful feel of the sparsely populated lake surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains.
