This week I’m showing another piece for an online workshop called Big Bold Blooms Wild Painting with Lynn Whipple. The process involved toning the canvas orange, layering paint and pastel, pushing and pulling background and foreground, and finishing with a spray varnish to seal the pastel. I like the light background color on this one better than the dark background from last week’s piece.
The assignment for the last week is to paint bigger and bolder on a 36 by 48 inch canvas. I’m planning to start with the orange canvas and a fresh bunch of flowers, but each layer builds on the previous one, so it will be a surprise how it turns out.

Thanks, Pete! I’m having lots of fun with this series.
