This week I’ve continued to print fabrics and gather images to use in a new series of fabric collages. I want to combine inspiration from my garden with personal symbols from memories. I like to accumulate an abundance of materials before starting to assemble a collage.
In my collection of photos, I’m looking for turquoise and analogous colors… blue, green, cyan, azure, teal. I’m also responding to shapes of garden urns, flowers, trees, and stone walls.
The view out the studio window is bands of muted winter green and brown, but the sky is turquoise. Arranging my printed fabrics in horizontal bands begins a landscape composition.
This phase of my process is hard to describe. But I find that putting words to colors and shapes as I collect them helps me set intentions and stay focused as I assemble the compositions.
