I’m continuing to experiment with painting on the gelatin plate with a brush and then pulling the print. Golden Open acrylic paints allow enough working time to blend colors and create larger prints. This week I used a 10×8” plate and an image of the trunk of a palmetto tree. I like the abstract pattern of lights and darks created by the boots left by fronds that broke off. I chose a limited palette of purple, gold, and green for an autumn color scheme.
By repeating the same image, I can see how changes in technique affect the results. As I made prints, I used different brushes, adjusted colors and softened edges to get the look I wanted.
For the fourth set of prints, I applied a thin transparent layer of quinacridone gold over the plate with a brayer before painting the image. I liked the resulting warm glow in this version.

I love the freedom in these and uninhibited strokes.
