Midsummer in South Carolina is all about green. Even though the weather is hot and dry, the native vegetation remains green, if a bit dusty and wilted. Spring flowers fade and autumn hues are far away, but shrubs and weeds are making the most of chlorophyll. When it’s finally our turn for one of those scattered afternoon thunderstorms, the rain washes off the dust and makes the greens brighter for a few days.

In the studio, I appreciate the air conditioning and draw inspiration from the trees and shrubs outside my windows. I’m sorting my stacks of gelli prints looking for shapes and color combinations that appeal to me. I’m combining paint and paper in abstract designs. It will take many layers to express the lushness of the summer garden.

I will leave you with a short video meditation on Green…
