Learning about Stencils

Making drawings into stencils and testing gelli plate prints

This week, I’m making stencils to use in printing on the gelli plate. I made three drawings for the light, middle, and dark values and cut them with a cutting machine. I’m able to get a lot of variation in the prints by choosing which layer to print first and by changing the colors.

Looking for inspiration for stencils

I’m also learning how to scan drawings into my cutting machine and tweak them in a computer program. I can see there are possibilities for improving the stencils to work more like I want.

Right now, I’m in the learning process and not familiar enough with the process to describe it for you. I’ll say more about this in future posts.

Do you enjoy the process of learning a new art technique? What’s exercising your art brain these days?
