Stencils, Week 2

Stencils and prints made with Canvas Workspace and Brother ScanNCut 2

I like using stencils in my monoprints to repeat a motif for continuity in a series. But, I want to use my own drawings and designs rather than commercial stencils. A couple of years ago, I bought a Brother ScanNCut 2 machine to aid in the process. I can scan my design and cut it from card stock or plastic to make a stencil. Recently, I’ve wanted to make some changes to the scans before cutting. I’m learning how to use Canvas Workspace, the software that works with the machine. I’m taking an online class from Julie Fei-Fan Balzer. Here is a link to a description of the class.

The top row shows stencils designed in Canvas Workspace using standard shapes and a hand drawn design. The bottom row shows gelli plate prints from the stencils. I plan to make quite a few more stencils before I evaluate them for use in my artwork.

Note: I do not have any connection with Brother or Balzer Designs or make any recommendations. I’m only telling you about my learning process.
