Gardening gave way to a day of plein air painting this week. I was invited to paint with Barbara Yongue, Melinda Smith, and Donna Gore at Ladd Farms in Winnsboro, SC. The weather was beautiful, and the deteriorating outbuildings made a striking contrast to the fresh green grass in the pastures.
Living in the suburbs of the capital city of Columbia, South Carolina, I’m surrounded by strip malls and traffic. It’s easy to forget how rural our state is. Within a 30 minute drive in any direction, there are many small towns and family farms with generations of history. It was a treat for me to get out in the country and paint with a group of friends on a beautiful spring day.
