These yuccas are growing in the dry shade and sandy soil of Clemson University’s REC.  I was interested in the way the sun on the mown grass silhouetted the trees and yuccas in the foreground.

As I’ve looked back at the paintings in this series, I realized there is a theme of buildings that have disappeared or places that are no longer accessible. Even though it wasn’t my intent to paint things that might disappear, I’m glad I have those images. It’s a good reminder to slow down and capture memories when we have a chance.

It is beautiful. I like everything about it: balance, composition, colors, accuracy. I love it.

Yuccas have never looked as interesting and beautiful as they do here. What a new perspective you have given them!
