SC State Fair

Work in progress 72×72″

The South Carolina State Fair traditionally has a huge Fine Arts exhibit. It’s a good opportunity for the public to see the variety and quality of work created by South Carolina artists. It wasn’t held last year because of COVID, but it’s happening this year.

Mark your calendars for October 13-24, 2021 to see the art. More information about the exhibit here…https://www.scstatefair.org/competitions/fine-art/

As I was thinking of which pieces to enter in the competition, I saw there is now an Oversized Wall Art (up to 72×72”) category. I like to paint large pieces as a change from the small prints and books I’ve been doing lately. So I’m developing some ideas for an entry.

Besides gathering ideas about imagery and colors, I started thinking about logistics for a project like this. I have some large canvases, but not quite the right size. And if I did have such a canvas, how it would be too big to go in my car. How would I transport it to the fairgrounds?

Right now, I am experimenting with attaching several canvases together. I’m thinking of how to transport it in pieces or to get help from a friend with a truck.

I almost hesitate to put this on my blog as it’s in early stages. But I hope that putting it out in public will give me incentive to get it finished and submitted by the September 1 deadline.

Now that I have a support assembled, I’m starting on the design. More about that next week….
