Before it turned so oppressively hot this week, I went out for a morning of painting at Sandhill Research and Education Center northeast of Columbia, SC. The graceful, pendulous branches of this deodar cedar caught my eye. A man who works at the Education center came by to be sure I was behaving myself (i.e not fishing!) and told me the tree is approximately 80 years old based on photos of the property from the 1930’s.
