Pink and Yellow, Part 2

Testing design ideas in pink and yellow, six 5×7″ collages

Last week I selected pink and yellow collage papers inspired by flowers from my garden. Since this color scheme is lighter than my usual choices, I experimented with some compositional ideas. I wanted to use a full range of values, so I included some black and white in each piece. Also, magenta (a deeper pink) works as a middle or dark value.

Designs converted to black and white to test balance of light and dark

I made several 5×7” collages with different designs, then photographed them. I converted the photos to black and white. It’s easier to see the balance of light and dark without the distraction of color.

I may embellish and finish some of these small pieces. I will also use them as guides for larger pieces. The advantage to working small is to experiment with color and design without a big commitment of time and materials. It’s all part of the process.
