Fabric Collage

Work in progress. Fabric collage ready for stitching.

Last week I made small collages in paper using design ideas from a book titled Art Quilt Collage by Deborah Boschert. She diagrams eight basic design ideas that could work for any type of 2-dimensional art. This week I’m translating my studies from paper into fabric.

I’m experimenting with printing on fabric and using fusible adhesive. I started by tearing up an old sheet and some linen scraps. I printed on my gelli plate using the same techniques and images that I’ve been using on paper. After fusing the design to a thin batting, I will add hand and machine stitching. But the process of creating the composition is the same as for a paper collage.

The photos below show my process.
