Color of the Year

2021 Color of the Year
Turquoise

I’ve never been a fan of making New Year’s Resolutions. This year, I’ve decided to do something different and choose a Color of the Year.

I got the idea from Pantone whose Color of the Year influences trends in fashion and decorating. For 2021, the choice is a combination of Illuminating (Yellow ) and Ultimate Gray. It’s “A marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting”. https://www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year-2021

These colors don’t uplift me. Gray as a non-color. Yawn. And yellow is exudes a certain excessive cheerfulness. Maybe together they balance each other out. Or it’s all too confusing. Can you see decorating your home of making art in yellow and gray? Not me. So I’ve decided to choose my own favorite color, TURQUOISE, as my color of the year. As color names are wildly inconsistent, it’s also called green-blue, cyan, teal, and aqua. Turquoise represents wisdom, tranquility, protection, good fortune, and hope. These are colors of sky and sea, of water and healing. I will use it in all its variations… hues, tints, tones, and shades.

Today I made a collage to keep in my studio to remind me of my color of the year.

What’s your color for 2021?

    Cindy,
Turquoise is my favorite color too. Tranquility is feeling it gives me, quiet, soothing.’

    Nice idea Cindy!
I like Turquoise too. And I definitely agree with you – yellow and gray, ugh!
