This week I was inspired to do some gelli plate printing with palm branches that I brought home from Palm Sunday service at church. I had done something similar two years ago on my 14×12″ plate and remembered that the palms work well for printing. Since then I have learned more about how to create transparent layers. Also, I have bought a larger (16×20″) gelatin plate and wanted to get it out of the box and into action. So I set up a table outside on a beautiful spring afternoon and started printing.
I used 24×18″ drawing paper for the prints, leaving a border that allows the prints to have undulating edges that show the layers. The larger plate was a good fit for the dramatic shapes of the leaves. I used Golden open acrylics in a palette of yellows and blues to express the fresh breeze of waving palm branches.

Very interesting. I’ve not heard of this technique. Beautiful results!
These are just wonderful Cindy. I feel freedom and motion in each one of them. I can only imagine the sense of artistic achievement you must have felt at the end of the day. Congratulations on your new Gelli plate and what you created.
Just love your palm leaf gel prints. Wish we could print together.
