The road to Edisto Island, South Carolina, tunnels through live oak allées and skims the top of salt marshes. And it passes many historic churches along the way. On a trip to Edisto Beach State Park in October 2015, I stopped to paint at Trinity Episcopal Church. I was drawn to the peaceful cemetery where the old oaks dwarfed the grave stones. The trees dripping with Spanish moss provided cool shade for a perfect painting site on a warm afternoon.
